Driven by passion, a family that has grown and harvested saffron using traditional methods for the last 20 years in the beautiful Maremma hills of Italy's Grosseto province, is able to maximize the cosmetic benefits of saffron.
Saffron pistils are obtained from crocus flowers, strictly hand-picked so as not to damage other parts of the plant. In order to produce a kilo of saffron, around 170,000 flowers have to be collected by hand, over a period of six weeks (flowering period) and must be picked early in the morning to preserve the properties of the spice.
This spice is the most expensive in the world due to its meticulous handwork. The use of saffron pistils in other fields arose from the rediscovery of cosmetic principles well known more than 3,500 years ago.
